The Real LIFE Bootcamp

2 ½ Days
June 7 - 9, 2024
The Wasatch Center
Salt Lake City, Utah

Thank you so much for your interest in the Real LIFE Bootcamp.

Real means seeing things as they actually are. LIFE stands for Leadership, Integral, Facilitation, and Energy.

The Bootcamp is a 2 1⁄2 day in-person skill-building intensive for working with people. The proposition underlying this training is that bettering your people skills means bettering your relationship to yourself. It involves awareness, work, play, and not knowing.

FEEDBACK, POINTING OUT AND PRACTICE

This training is based on action-learning: learning by doing in a feedback-rich environment. It is highly experiential and engages the group in dialogue and exercises to awaken our understanding and capacity to work with challenging occasions, turning them to opportunities for deeper bonding and growth.

This experience weaves in live demonstrations and unique “pointing out” instructions, making the subtle group dynamics more visible to everyone. Like a sports team reviewing the last play on the sidelines, you will have the opportunity to freeze frame and zoom in and out of the group dynamics.

Lastly, because this is a training environment you will have opportunities to practice facilitating group conversations and receive real-time coaching and feedback from your lead trainers, coaches, and peers.

BOOTCAMP SKILLS

  1. INTEGRAL PRACTICE. The ability to seek, take, and integrate perspectives
  2. SELF DEVELOPMENT. Using your own awareness, emotional intelligence, and presence as a barometer for working with your group
  3. ATTENTION TO ENERGY. Sensing the energetic qualities in the room (more than what people say) such as coherence, differentiation, vitality, or sluggishness, in order to better serve the whole.

With a special emphasis on conversation in the culture wars because us-versus-them is one of the deadliest forces on the planet, fracturing our relationships and fragmenting our meaning-making.

WE WILL PRIORITIZE

  • Seeing clearly over group think
  • Creative tension over polarization
  • Meaningful expression over policing of speech
  • Flex flow over identity politics
  • Productive over damaging conflict
  • Human contact rather than ideology

YOU WILL RECEIVE

  • 18 hours of live instruction, practice, and Q&A with gifted facilitators Diane Musho Hamilton and Gabriel Wilson
  • Live demonstrations with real-time commentary to make group dynamics visible
  • Sessions to practice group facilitation and receive real-time coaching and feedback
  • Access to mp3 audio files of all teaching sessions

The Real Life Bootcamp

Diane Musho Hamilton

I am a mediator and a meditator. Mediation deepens our relationship to oneness; mediation puts it into action. I was the Director of Dispute Resolution for the Judiciary in Utah, mediating many kinds of matters, but was recognized for my skills in facilitating the more difficult conversations. I enjoy the intimacy of conflict, and its creative potential. I began to work with Ken Wilber in 2004, and for fifteen years held transformative containers for many people interested in their own development. I teach meditation in the Soto lineage of Zen. I’ve written three books, most recently Compassionate Conversations, co-authored with Gabe and Kim.

The Real Life Bootcamp

Gabriel Wilson

I am an Integral facilitator, advisor, and co-author of Compassionate Conversations. I grew up in New York City and in Rio de Janeiro; my father is Black and my mother is White, so my life naturally led me to explore the power of radical collaboration in committed, diverse relationships. Through Stanford’s Masters program in Policy, Organization, and Leadership Studies (POLS) I studied design thinking, adult developmental psychology, and leadership. Recently, I founded “Freedom and Fairness”, a program devoted to helping individuals and groups enact greater freedom, fairness, and compassion. I practice Zen at Two Arrows Zen.

I'm a community organizer, facilitator, and coach, shaped by my background as a first-generation American with an Egyptian-Armenian mother and a French-Russian father. My work lies at the crossroads of culture, conflict, and ancestral wisdom. Drawing from my experiences working at the United Nations and with President Obama's election campaigns, I've gained insights and expertise into the complexities of social change systems and the crucial role of transformational leadership development. I'm a Zen practitioner and have the great privilege of practicing at Two Arrows Zen.

I work with individuals and organizations to build capacity to practice deep
belonging and being with difference. My background is in tech, startups, and
design thinking. I also work with trauma, culture and identity, bringing a unique
perspective. I am a certified Integral Coach, a licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist (LMFT) and a 20-year meditation practitioner. I’m trained in The Hakomi Method and Re-Creation of the Self. I love to visit friends and family in Japan, learn Japanese, play in the garden with my 3-year-old nephew, hike, and read books with a warm beverage. My favorite word is Liminality.

I am the founder and lead designer of Inkfish Ideas, working at the intersection of Innovation and Belonging since 2014. I specialize in using Design Thinking to help teams and organizations reimagine how they tackle complex problems and use the same methodology for leadership development and program design. Combining my work as an executive coach at Stanford’s d.school with my learning in National Equity Project’s leadership program, and the Real LIFE Facilitation Program, I provide an energetic and unique approach in support of equitable innovation.
